Is this you
Slow, steady thinning that follows a pattern.
Pigment Clarity is an elective cosmetic program for the appearance of melasma and uneven pigmentation. It is not a cure, and it only works when the home-care half is done as well as the clinic half.
Hereditary thinning — androgenetic alopecia — rarely arrives as bald patches. It arrives as a part that looks wider in photos, a crown you can see through under bathroom lights, temples that have quietly moved back, regrowth that comes in finer and shorter than the hair it replaces.
Density Restore is for this stage: follicles that are shrinking but still active. Left alone, pattern thinning usually progresses, and a follicle that has fully miniaturised cannot be revived by any topical or needling program. The earlier you begin, the more there is to protect.
One rule before anything else.
Sudden shedding, round patches, pain, scaling or scar-like areas need a GP or dermatologist first. Our pharmacist will tell you if that applies to you — and will not sell you a program if it does.
A widening centre part
The most common first sign in women.
Receding temples or a thinning crown
The classic male pattern, often from the twenties or thirties.
Visible scalp under light
Hair that still covers, but no longer conceals.
Finer, shorter regrowth
The signature of a follicle that is miniaturising.
A family history
A parent or grandparent with the same pattern.

The treatment
Two parts. Each does what the other cannot.
Minoxidil is the established over-the-counter treatment for hereditary thinning. Professional scalp needling is studied as the adjunct that helps it work harder. Density Restore runs both on one schedule.
Part one · In clinic
Dermapen scalp microneedling
A professional Dermapen creates thousands of precise micro-channels across the thinning zones of the scalp — typically at a depth of 1.0 to 1.5 mm, set to your scalp at consultation. Each session takes about 45 minutes including topical numbing and is repeated fortnightly through the program.
Triggers the scalp's wound-healing cascade — the growth factors that signal follicles to re-enter their growth phase
Increases blood supply to the follicle bed
Opens temporary channels so topical minoxidil reaches the follicle rather than sitting on the surface
Delivered by our INSKIN-trained skin therapists on a clinical-grade device
Part two · At home
Pharmacist-guided minoxidil
Minoxidil 5% is a Pharmacy Medicine registered in Australia for hereditary hair loss. Our pharmacist assesses whether it suits you, chooses foam or solution, shows you exactly how to apply it, and reviews you at each program milestone. It is dispensed through Stellar Pharmacy — the same building, the same visit.
Extends the growth phase of each hair and shortens the resting phase
Gradually enlarges miniaturised follicles so the hairs they produce are thicker and longer
Applied to a dry scalp twice a day — the routine takes under a minute
Continues after the program as your maintenance, which is how the result is kept
What the evidence says.
In a 2013 trial of 100 men, adding weekly scalp microneedling to minoxidil produced a markedly larger gain in hair count over twelve weeks than minoxidil alone; a smaller later trial also favoured the combination, more modestly. The evidence is encouraging, mostly in men, and no single schedule is proven — which is why your program is set to you and reviewed against your own photographs, not a promise.

How it works
Why the two together.
Hereditary thinning is a process, not an event. Under the influence of DHT, a by-product of testosterone, sensitive follicles shrink a little with every growth cycle. The hairs they make become finer and shorter; the growth phase gets briefer; eventually the follicle produces only a wisp, then nothing visible at all.
Minoxidil interrupts the shrinking. It lengthens the growth phase and improves the follicle's blood supply, so miniaturised follicles are coaxed back toward producing full hairs. Its limitation is delivery — applied to an intact scalp, only a fraction of it reaches the follicle.
Microneedling solves delivery and adds a signal of its own. The controlled micro-injury releases the growth factors that tell dormant follicles to restart, and the channels it opens let minoxidil penetrate where it is needed.
In published clinical trials, adding weekly or fortnightly scalp microneedling to minoxidil produced substantially greater improvements in hair count than minoxidil on its own over the same twelve weeks. That combination is the whole basis of this program.

Why not wait
What happens if you leave it.
Nothing dramatic — which is precisely the problem. Hereditary thinning is progressive and quiet. Each cycle the follicle miniaturises a little further, and a follicle that has fully miniaturised and stopped producing hair cannot be revived by any topical treatment or needling program. At that point the only route to density is surgical.
Treatment works on follicles that are still alive. The earlier you begin, the more follicles there are to work with and the more density there is to protect. Most people who start Density Restore say the same thing at their final review: they wish they had started when they first noticed.
Two honest caveats. Minoxidil is a maintenance treatment — stop it and the hair it has sustained is gradually lost over the following months, so this is a commitment, not a course. And results are individual: some scalps respond strongly, some modestly, and we will tell you which yours is at the midpoint rather than let you find out at the end.

The process
From first consultation to maintained density.
01
Scalp consultation
Your therapist maps the thinning zones and takes standardised baseline photographs. Our pharmacist reviews your health history, confirms minoxidil is suitable, and dispenses your first supply with a hands-on application lesson. You leave with a written plan and program dates.
03
Home care, daily
Minoxidil morning and night on the days between sessions, skipping the day of treatment. Your pharmacist checks in at your third session and adjusts if your scalp needs it.
02
Program sessions
Fortnightly Dermapen scalp needling in clinic — six sessions over roughly three months for Foundation, twelve over six months for Complete. Topical numbing first; about 45 minutes per visit.
04
Reviews and maintenance
Midpoint photographs at session three (or six), final photographs at the end, compared side by side with your baseline. Then a maintenance plan — daily minoxidil, plus optional monthly needling to hold and build the result.

From first consultation to maintained density.

Progress
What you will notice, and when.
Hair grows about a centimetre a month, so this is a program measured in months, not weeks. Here is the typical arc; yours is tracked against your own photographs.
Weeks 0–2
Getting started
Mild scalp tingling or dryness as minoxidil begins. Scalp pink for a day or two after each needling session. Nothing visible in the mirror yet — this is normal.
Weeks 2–8
The shedding phase
Many people notice extra hairs in the shower or brush. This is the treatment working: resting hairs are being pushed out so new growth can start behind them. It is temporary. Do not stop here — this is where most people who fail with minoxidil give up.
Weeks 8–12
First signs
Shedding settles. Fine, short new hairs appear along the part and hairline — soft to the touch and easy to miss without your baseline photo. Midpoint review and photographs.
Months 3–6
Visible change
New hairs thicken and lengthen. The scalp shows less under light; the part looks narrower; hair feels denser to handle. This is where the difference between baseline and progress photos becomes obvious.
Months 6–12
Full result
Density continues to build and existing hairs coarsen as follicles re-enlarge. Final program photographs at the end of Complete. The result plateaus around twelve months and is then held.
Ongoing
Maintenance
Daily minoxidil holds what you have gained. Optional monthly or bi-monthly needling sessions keep the follicles stimulated and are recommended for the strongest responders.

What to expect
On the day, afterwards, and between sessions.
Before your session
Arrive with clean, dry hair — no styling product, oil or dry shampoo

Allow about 45 minutes, including numbing time
During and immediately after
Topical numbing sits for 15–20 minutes before we begin

Minor pinpoint bleeding on the day is normal and settles quickly
You can drive home and return to desk work straight away
Aftercare, the first 48 hours
No minoxidil for 24 hours after treatment — resume the next evening
No washing for 12 hours; then a gentle, fragrance-free shampoo
No hair colour, sprays, gels, hats in the heat, saunas or heavy sweating for 48 hours
Keep the scalp out of direct sun; wear a clean, loose hat outdoors
Do not touch or pick the scalp; sleep on a clean pillowcase
